A new sports channel needs attention – and moments that stay with the fans. When MySports was launched, promotional products were therefore included in the communication from the outset. Not as an extra, but as part of the campaign.
The campaign began with 10,000 keyrings shaped like ice hockey pucks. They were handed out during the playoff finals and at various consumer exhibitions. The product immediately connected with the world of ice hockey and brought the new brand directly to the fans.
Each new stage of the campaign brought fresh ideas. Fruit gummies in packaging designed around different sports added a playful touch. Swiss-made ballpoint pens supported subscription sales in retail stores. Shortly before the channel went on air, small Dextro Energy tins reminded everyone that the final stretch required stamina.
The concept remained closely connected to sport in the following campaigns. A compact power bank provided energy for long games and overtime, while branded table-football balls were used at tournaments during consumer exhibitions. MySports polo shirts completed the appearance of employees and partners.
The result was not a random collection of promotional products. Every item had its own moment and reinforced a specific message. This is what well-planned merchandising can achieve: the brand is not only seen, but experienced.
